Thanks to Rhodes’s rocky terrain and the 350-meter-deep waters off the coast, the thermal conditions on Rhodes are very reliable. In addition, Rhodes lies right in the Meltemi belt, where strong summer winds blow in from the mainland. The average temperature in July is 26°C. The nights are very hot, but every hotel room has air conditioning. This is billed based on usage and must be paid for separately. There is a 22% chance of winds exceeding 30 knots. The average wind speed in July is 19 knots. The average water temperature is a pleasant 26–27°C. Therefore, a wetsuit is not necessary. However, the UV index remains very high until late afternoon, so you should always wear long-sleeved Lycra tops and use good sunscreen! After you book, we’ll send you more detailed packing list tips.
Breakfast consists of fresh fruit and vegetables, salad, sausage, and cheese—and, of course, plenty of sheep’s milk cheese. Of course, the hotel also caters to its many British guests, so the hot dishes at the breakfast buffet always have an English touch: beans in tomato sauce, bacon, and sausages. If you get there early enough for breakfast, the eggs are still soft-boiled. After 9:00 a.m., they’re just hard-boiled eggs. Alternatively, there are fried eggs and, every now and then, omelets. There’s also a huge cereal bar with yogurt, cake , coffee, hot chocolate, and various fruit juices. Everything you need to start your kiting day with energy.
At lunchtime, you can have just about anything delivered to the beach: burgers, club sandwiches, gyros, pita, salads, smoothies, ice cream, coffee, and much more. The Hotel Sabina also offers an extensive menu at its pool bar. For dinner, we love going to the most famous taverna in Theologos. It’s authentic, fast, incredibly delicious, and very affordable. The Sea View Restaurant is located on the street parallel to our accommodation. Once a week, they host a karaoke night there, featuring equally excellent authentic Greek cuisine and great cocktails! We’ve also planned a few culinary highlights in the old town of Rhodes.
Greece’s fourth-largest island has a lot to offer. It’s pretty easy and straightforward to rent a scooter, motorcycle, or car by the day. Just choose your vehicle at the hotel front desk, and it will be delivered to the lobby within a few hours. During the camps in July, millions of butterflies in the famous Butterfly Valley are in the final stages of their metamorphosis. A unique natural spectacle! A hike through the Butterfly Valley is definitely an experience. For those afraid of heights, the next activity on the itinerary might not be suitable. At a small, hidden beach, there’s the perfect spot to jump into the water from sea cliffs. Using steps carved into the rock by Mother Nature, you can plunge into the water from heights of 2, 4, 6, or 9 meters! A beautiful blue cove and a small restaurant with a panoramic terrace make for a wonderful day at the beach. Or would you rather enjoy some culture and partying? The Old Town of Rhodes is definitely worth a visit! From cozy cafés to nightclubs and rooftop bars and restaurants, there’s something for everyone. Or we can simply organize a small, laid-back beach party right at Surfin Bird Rhodes. You definitely won’t get bored!
A little further upwind from the main wind direction, there’s a small standing area near the shore where we can hold beginner lessons. For body dragging, however, we head out into deeper water. Thanks to the sideshore conditions (wind parallel to the shore), there are exit points available throughout the area. The standing area isn’t very large, which is why we’ve limited the number of beginners to a total of 4. So don’t wait too long to book a beginner’s course in Rhodes! Spots might already be filled. The kite school’s motorboat ensures safety. On the first day of camp, there’s a comprehensive briefing on the area right there at the spot anyway.
